An Overview of LCWF Activities

Published a book "A Guide Book for Waterfalls Research" of Colombo District

Conducted a Research Programme on Waterfalls. Two volunteers, Steve Hughes and Anna Walsh, from British Foreign Programme, were involved on that research for 3 months and prepared the basic structure of the Programme.

Conducted a Research Programme on four Waterfalls (Dambora Falls, Ranumudu Falls, Kumari Falls and Ella Uda Falls) Colombo District's Waterfalls in 10 August 2002.

Special Annual General Meeting and Research Programme on Udawatta Forest Reservation were conducted in Kandy district on 14 September 2002.

Conducted a Workshop on "Structure of the District Waterfalls" at Galle district nearby Galle Fort, one of the seven world heritage sites in Sri Lanka, on 13 October 2002.

Conducted a training programme at Eden Hotel, Beruwala on 26 October 2002 for 14 members of Lanka Council On Waterfalls (LCWF) in preparation of the forthcoming World Congress on Waterfalls, which is proposed to be held on October 2005 in Sri Lanka.

Conducted a Workshop on "Basic Structure of Waterfalls' Study Programme in Southern Province" at Balapitiya, Madhu River on 17 November 2002.

Conducted a three days workshop on Rajarata Irrigation System on 6-8 December 2002.

Three Sri Lankan Waterfalls (Bambarakanda Falls, Kururndu Oya Falls and Diyaluma Falls) included in the list of World's Highest Waterfalls. Their rank in the list is 48th, 58th and 62nd respectively.

Approved the Logo for Lanka Council On Waterfalls (LCWF)

Approved the Constitution of Lanka Council On Waterfalls in Sinhala language and translated in to Tamil and English.

Annual General Meetings (AGMs) held on 25 January 2003 and 05th June, elected new Executive Committee of LCWF.

Executive Committee Meetings took place on 01st March, 5th April, 3rd May, 28 June, 26th July, 16th August, 11th October, 30th November in 2003 & 13th March, 24th April, 22nd May, 05th June, 26th September in 2004.

Prepared T-shirt and Cap on Waterfalls in connection with promotion campaign.

A South South Exchange Programme volunteer from Nepal, Mr. Kedar Prasad Bhattarai, came to LCWF to assist designing the Website on Sri Lankan Waterfalls.

19 Waterfalls in Sinharaja Rain Forest Area, one of the seven world heritage sites in Sri Lanka, were discovered during a Workshop.

Establishment of a Research field office in of LCWF in Lankagama.

6 Waterfalls in Kalutara district were discovered during a Workshop.

9 Waterfalls found in Matale district during a study programme.

A Research Programme was conducted about the pattern of visitors and vehicles to observe the Bopath Falls and Kirindi Falls.

Finalized three documents on advantages of Waterfalls, study report on Waterfalls and explanation of Waterfalls.

Had a research about songs on waterfalls in Sinhala Language and selected eleven best songs among them.

Contribution to the book on "Waterfalls of Sri Lanka".

A new Website for LCWF.

Designed a course on basic training programme on Waterfalls.

Preparation for the forthcoming World Congress on Waterfalls.

Finalized a Radio Programme on Colombo district's Waterfalls.

Composed a School Anthem and handed over to the Sinharaja Thudawa School.

Composed a song to bring out the theme of waterfalls by well know artist, Dharmasiri Gamage.

A volunteer from the Netherlands-Cheuk Ho Man came to LCWF and conducted a research on Sinharaja and the social situation at Lankagama.

The annual get together for the year 2003 was held at the hotel sea view

Provincial activity programs conducted for the Sabaragamuwa provincial at Ratnapura at the Kaltota irrigation holiday resort, for the southern province Elpitiya Andahelena Falls and for the western province at Kaluthara Thudugala Ella.

The second Sabaragamuwa activity program was held at Nalangana Ella.

Finalized the structure of the study course on waterfalls and commenced from 19th June 2004.

Mid year get together held at the Karoki hall in Kollupitiya.

Waterfalls study tours held at Kalutara on July 17 at Thudugala Ella, Colombo district waterfalls and three day workshop in Sinharaja.
